John Hynes is reelected mayor of Boston.

Hynes (D), with 124, 301 votes, defeats Massachusetts Senate President John Powers (D), with 111,775, to win his third consecutive term as mayor. Turnout is 250,516 or 66.3%. The results are very similar to the 1949 election, with Powers winning 10 of the 11 wards won then by James Michael Curley, and Hynes winning in the rest of the city.
